William Russell Lampshire, of Bancroft, MI passed away on March 7, 2022. Bill was born on April 24, 1938, to James and Anna (Carey) Lampshire in New Boston, MI as the middle child of seven. He graduated from Huron High School, though he spent part of his senior year sneaking out of English class to play baseball and teaching shop class to his classmates. This love of building things lasted his entire life, beginning with building his first home in Gregory, then later with hundreds of lawn ornaments that he diligently put in the yard each spring and had to move each week in order to mow the grass.
Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed family gatherings and could usually be found with the kids; outside playing baseball, having a snowball fight or letting the little ones climb on him. He was lucky enough to have four grandchildren to continue playing with as he got older. Weather permitting, Bill could be found walking the dog through town every day, often having more steps than his grandchildren in a Fitbit challenge. Although enjoyable, walking in Michigan didn’t compare to walking miles on the beach in Florida.
Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Millie (Cullen) Lampshire, his siblings Richard (Susan) Lampshire and Kate Dean, his daughter Michelle (David) Keller and grandchildren Angela, Michael (Lauren), Nicholas and Elizabeth Keller. Visitation will be on March 9th from 10am to noon, with a service beginning at noon. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
