Ruth Davis Obituary

Ruth M. Davis, age 85 years, died on January 4, 2024, at her home, The Summit in Mesa, Arizona.  i   She was born on February 8, 1938, in rural Handy Township, Livingston County, Michigan, to Irving F. and Ethel M. (Jones) Utter.  She attended a country school until the fifth grade when the Utter family moved into Fowlerville.  She attended Fowlerville Schools and was graduated in June 1956.

On February 22, 1964, Ruth was joined in marriage to Charles Blascovich, a widower with three young children, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Fowlerville, Michigan.  Within the year, they moved to Riverside, California, and welcomed a fourth child into their family in 1967.  Twenty-two years later, the marriage ended in divorce.  Returning to Fowlerville in 1996 to attend the 40th anniversary of her high school graduation, she and Richard Davis rekindled their high school relationship. The following year they were married and, when Dick retired, they moved to Arizona.  He passed away there in 2002.

Surviving are four beloved children:  Doreen (Robert) Redinger of Fowlerville, Anthony (Amber) Blascovich of Fowlerville, Angelo (Patricia) Blascovich of Lake Elsinore, California, and Catherine Downing of Bloomfield. New Mexico.  Also surviving are two step-daughters:  Cheryl Davis and Susan Davis, both of Howell, Michigan.  Ruth’s seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren were added blessings.  Her only sibling, Frank C. Utter, passed away in 2012, and his widow Ann continues to live in Fowlerville.

Ruth was a strong woman of faith for whom life was an adventure, a gift from God.Devoted to her family, a friend to everyone, she was always eager to learn something new.  Her homemaking skills were unequaled and she was an avid Arizona Diamondbacks baseball fan.  She was a member of St. George’s Catholic Church in Apache Junction.

While still in high school she worked in Woods’ Drug Store in Fowlerville and after graduation began a clerical career in a local factory.  Over the years she continued to build on her work experiences by serving as a bank teller, a dental office receptionist, and a Mary Kay cosmetics consultant. She also co-partnered a catering business, was a community home sales representative and conducted several Bible study groups for many years.

Traveling throughout the US and Europe provided her with many treasured memories.  It also introduced her to a French family with whom she lived for a year and later revisited several times.  One special honor was her selection as the Queen for Fowlerville’s 125th Anniversary celebration in 1961.  Twenty-five years later she returned to town and, wearing the same dress, participated in the 150th Anniversary celebration.

A funeral mass was offered on January 12, 2024, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Fowlerville, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery.
