Mary was born in Bridgewater Township on February 29, 1940, to Floyd and Elizabeth Schiel. Mary grew up on the family farm in Manchester, and graduated from Manchester High School in 1958. She then went to school and became a licensed Practical Nurse. After that she worked as a dental assistant for a dentist in Ann Arbor. In 1961 she met her future husband Bob Richmond on a blind date, at a Michigan, Michigan State hockey game in East Lansing. The were married on November 18, 1961. When their daughter Catherine was born in 1964, she continued to work part time, and when their second daughter Sheryl was born in 1967, she decided be a stay at home mom. She still stayed very active in her church, and with the Brighton Jaycee's, being voted outstanding young woman of the year. In 1977 she went to work for the Livingston Intermediate School District, as a teacher's aide, retiring in 1992. During her retirement she enjoyed gardening, golf, and spending time with her two grandchildren, Sarah and Robert. Mary and her husband enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel trailer, and spending their winters in Tucson, Arizona, at Western Way RV Resort. While there she made many new friends and was instrumental in getting stained glass classes started.
She leaves behind her husband, Bob, daughter Catherine (Fred) Ort, daughter Sheryl (Chris) Marsh, granddaughter Sarah Ort, grandson Robert (Ashley) Ort, her brother Charles (Joann), and sister Ruth Hainstock.
A memorial celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 28th, at the Richmond residence 6160 Kinyon Drive, Brighton, Michigan. Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m., with the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. followed by lunch.
