Ida Spalding Obituary

Ida B (Pat) Spalding, age 88, of Fowlerville passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on September 7, 2021. Pat was born in Manton, Michigan on August 12, 1933.  She grew up in Shaftsburg under the care of foster parents John and Lelia Shorna on their farm. Pat graduated from Perry High School in 1952 where she was active in 4H and the band. Pat was retired from Bent Tube in Fowlerville. She was also a past president of the Michigan Lupus foundation for many years. Pat was loved by many and she will remain in our hearts forever! She was preceded in death by her husband Ted Spalding Sr, infant son David, and dear brother Ernie Winegarden. She is survived by her three children, Ted (Sue) Spalding Jr , Kim (Judy) Sandin , and Shay (David) Gaffey. Grandchildren, Rich (Belinda) Spalding, Wade (Amy) Spalding, Scott (Ladda) Spalding, Kristy (Brad) Placido, Matt (Susi) Sandin, Mike Gaffey, DJ (Mary) Gaffey. Great grandchildren, Stephanie, Sophia, Sara, Andrew, Luke, Abby, Lydia, Justin, Joel, Renae, Joey, Molli, Patrick, Joseph, Maggie, Deone, and Lexxi.  Pat loved all animals, especially dogs. She was a friend to many and always had a kind word for everyone. She loved to play cards, family gatherings, and all people.  This is written by her granddaughter, Kristy Placido. It sums up what a wonderful person she was:

If you knew my Gram, you were a lucky person. Always sharp, classy, smart, witty, and fun. She was quick with a smile, ready with a joke, and loved a little gossip. You never had to wonder if she loved you and she’d defend her family and friends unrelentingly. She had a forgiving spirit and didn’t carry bitterness in spite of some bad hands she had been dealt. She was not just my Grandma, she was a lifelong friend and confidant. She was a co-conspirator and always made a little mischief feel like big fun. I know she made her first stop to the Rainbow Bridge to pick up Coco and Hailey and now she is dancing pain-free in heaven, cackling with all her girlfriends! I hope Johnny Carson’s in heaven because I know she’d love to meet him! Love you forever, my sweet Gram… until we meet again. ❤️

The family thanks Todd Walter and all the staff at Crosaires AFC home in Williamston for their care and kindness.
