His Legacy…George Arthur Bain, Sr., passed away August 4, 2022. He was born on January 10, 1933, in Howell, Michigan to Thomas Bain and Evelyn (Smith) Bain. George married the love of his life, Joyce Clark, on September 24, 1955, in Syracuse, New York. George was a lifelong resident of Howell and graduated from Howell High School in 1951. George served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division as a Paratrooper during the Korean War. He was a butcher by trade and inherited his father’s meat processing business, Bain’s Packing. He is also a proud member of Howell American Legion Post 141 and the Howell Fraternal Order of Eagles # 3607. He was passionate about gardening and his friends and neighbors would ask how he grew such award winning gardens. George will be remembered as a loyal, funny, wise and compassionate man who woke up every morning expecting great things to happen. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
His Family…George will be missed by his wife, Joyce; his children, George (Colleen) Bain Jr., Debra Bain, Jean Bain; siblings, Arlene (Dale) Hoover, Thomas (Rose) Bain Jr., Betty (Howard) Murphy, Francis Davis, Linda Richter; grandchildren Krysta (Steve) Rinz, Michael Bain, Noelle Horton, great grandchildren Taylor Rinz, Emily Rinz, Brooklyn Rinz; and other family. He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Evelyn, his brother Thomas, his sister Betty, his granddaughter, Krysta Bain-Rinz.
His Funeral Service…George’s family and friends will gather Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at St John’s Episcopal, 504 Prospect St. in Howell, Michigan from 10:30am to 12:00pm with memorial service immediately following the gathering. Father Jim will serve as celebrant. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. John’s Episcopal Church or to the Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor.
