Florence (Pennell) Sariscsany

Florence Sariscsany, 99, of Gaylord Michigan, passed away in Jeffersonville, Indiana on April 11, 2020, surrounded by her family.  She was born to Frank and Elva Pennell on March 30, 1921 in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan.  Florence married Steve J. Sariscsany August 15, 1946, and they lived together in Howell, Michigan until Florence, as a widow, relocated to Gaylord, Michigan in 1984.  She is survived by three children: James D. Sariscsany (Colleen) of Omaha, NE; Dale R. Sariscsany (Cara) of Jeffersonville, IN; and Mary Jo Sariscsany of Gaylord, MI. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Natalie Wagner (Chuck), Conner Sariscsany (Lindsey), Stephen Sariscsany, Laurel Sariscsany, Alyssa Sariscsany and Tyler Sariscsany, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Marilyn Dicks and Nancy Buffmyer and many nieces and nephews.  Florence was predeceased by her loving husband in 1975, her eldest son Larry, and her grandson Ned Sariscsany as well as her siblings, Harriet Benner, Lester Pennell, Arthur Pennell, Luella Whitmore, Harold Pennell, Donald Pennell, Sherll Pennell and Shirley Pennell.  Florence was proud to share her memories of working at the bomber plant during WWII.  She was an avid square dancer, seamstress, baker, and card player. She passed on her appreciation for music, cards, and sweets to all her children and grandchildren.  She was “mom” to many of her children’s friends and to her grandchildren and great grandchildren she was “Grandma Skinny”, “G-Ma”, “GiGi” and “GG-Ma”.  Florence was extremely proud of her family.  She liked nothing better than having her family gather “up-north”, making their favorite foods while passing time playing games and sitting around campfires. She leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. A private family viewing and service will be held at Herrmann Funeral Home on April 25, 2020 with internment following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Fowlerville, Michigan.  Also held was a private family viewing and ceremony on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Naville & Seabrook Funeral Home, New Albany, Indiana.   A “Celebration of Life” memorial service will be held summer 2020. Donations may be made to: McLaren Hospice and Home Care Foundation.
