Robert C. Nygren

Robert C. Nygren (Bob), age 89, died at home in San Bernardino, CA on Saturday January 13, 2018.

Born in Detroit Michigan on August 5th, 1928 to Louis L and Hazel Nygren,he lived in Detroit until the family moved to Fowlerville during the early 50’s. Bob returned to the Nygren family home on Gregory Road in Fowlerville after serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean War for two years.  He resided in Fowlerville until relocating to California in 2012 to live with his son, John. He was a carpenter by trade and built custom homes with his four brothers as a partner in Nygren Brothers Construction until his retirement in 1993.

He married Mary M. Smyth in August 1956 and raised eight children together.  Mary was the love of his life and he was completely devoted to her.  She preceded him in death in 2003.  He was also preceded in death by his daughter Dawn Marie and son, Randy.  He is survived by his sons, Lavern Nygren of Arizona, Edward Nygren of Arizona, and John Nygren of California; his daughters, Mary Ellen Nygren of Howell, Robin Moore of Hawaii and Sue Iiams of California; along with 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters, Donna Popa(Nicholas) of Fenton and Barbara Ganton (James) of Williamston.

Bob enjoyed his life and family.  He took great pride in his home and especially his lawn!  He was known throughout Fowlerville as having the best lawn in the Village.  In fact, after his retirement, he spent many a day mowing not only his lawn, but other’s as well.  Being outside in the sunshine and listening to his music brought him much joy. 

Services will be held at the Herrmann Funeral Home in Fowlerville on Saturday, January 20, 2018 @ 11 AM, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Fowlerviille.  Visitation on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Habit for Humanity at 7198 Grand River Avenue, Brighton, MI 48114 or LACASA at 2895 W. Grand River Avenue, Howell, MI 48843 in his memory.
