Barry Sherk Obituary

Barry Lee Sherk (67 years) passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by the ones who loved him the very most, on a sunny Sunday late afternoon, April 14, 2024. Barry was our mountain of a man, with unwavering and everlasting love for his wife of 47 years Vicki Jeanne Sherk. He was a devoted father, personal jungle gym and master mechanic to his two children Jodi Limbers (Matthew Limbers) and Vincent Sherk (Dave Yaklin). The biggest of Papas to Myla, Arlo and Elliott Limbers who loudly cheered watching him jump over the side of the pool. He was the youngest son of George and Ann Sherk, and often could be found picking (eating) raspberries on the farm in Mt. Clemens and swimming in the creek with his two siblings Greg (Sherk) and Denise (Calvert). Barry was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ann Sherk, his mother in law, Joanne Page and nephews Greg Sherk, Jr and Chip Calvert. Barry was an Army man who served our country fiercely and was stationed anywhere from Alaska to Texas. Whilst in the service he climbed glaciers, jumped from helicopters and protected our country with honor. Barry was an avid outdoorsman who often could be found in his church, the woods, with his buddy Frank. He loved the stillness and felt most connected to God while in his hunting blind. Barry’s hobbies also included bonsai gardening, collecting coins, crystals and music. Barry loved all music and passed his exceptional good taste to his children and grandchildren; who also love The Stones and Bowie just as much as he did. “I’m feeling very still And I think my spaceship knows which way to go Tell my wife I love her very much so she knows.” David Bowie “Space Oddity“ Holding his hand until the very end was his loving wife, Vicki Jeanne. Always there for him during every struggle as well as sitting side by side laughing through T.V. dinners and countless adventures, not only his wife but his best friend. She and everyone else will know how much he loved them, he never failed to show it. Barry would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, he was both a lover and a fighter through and through. Always there for the biggest hugs and ready to fight for his family and country whenever in need. He will forever be loved and missed. May he rest peacefully among the trees that he loved and stars that all his favorite songs spoke of. Visitation will be held at Saint Augustine Catholic Church, 10am until noon, on Friday, April 19th 6481 Faussett Rd, Howell, MI (please note ongoing bridge construction in area) A prayer service will commence immediately following visitation. A private family burial will take place on Monday at Ft. Custer. In lieu of flowers, or should you desire, the family would truly appreciate memorial contributions.
