Wileata “Willie” Hoyer joined her husband, Gary, in heaven on February 20, 2018 at the age of 91. Willie was born in Fowlerville, MI on August 20, 1926 to William and Alma Smith and is survived by her daughter Stephanie and son Patrick. Willie was known as the Teddy Bear lady, as she would knit teddy bears for people she met and the Ronald McDonald House in Ann Arbor, MI. Willie also volunteered for the Arbor Hospice which was there to provide comfort and support for both her husband and her passing.
While growing up, her aunt told her to visit places before you get married because after getting married and having kids, you will not be able to travel and see the world. Before she got married, she visited Cuba and the Caribbean. After having her two kids, she went back Wayne State to get her teaching certificate and became a teacher in the South Redford School District, teaching typing and computer programming. After retiring from teaching, Williecontinued to take her aunt’s advice and traveled the world with her husband and friends, visiting from the Arctic Circle to the southern tip of South America, Australia, New Zealand, and most of Europe.
